Lauren and JJ met on OkCupid and hit it off immediately!
Lauren is a flight attendant and was based out of Baltimore when her and JJ began dating. On Christmas Eve, Lauren was bummed because she wouldn’t be celebrating with JJ and her family since she had a flight later that day to leave Chicago for work in Baltimore. The only thing making her feel better was that she had plans to celebrate the holiday with a friend once she arrived!
However, JJ had other plans for her! He flew to Baltimore earlier in the day to set up the most romantic night of Lauren’s life. JJ conspired with her friend and they upgraded the hotel room to a suite overlooking Baltimore’s Inner Harbor. He then set the hotel room with candles, chocolate covered strawberries, and an engagement ring for a picture perfect proposal. Of course Lauren said yes, and they got to celebrate Christmas and their engagement together!
Flash Forward to their wedding day. Lauren’s favorite part of the day was when JJ read his vows to her. He is not a man of many words but he pulled out all of the stops for their ceremony. She says (with a huge grin on her face), ” I know he was hating it, but I loved watching him lose his composure.”
Their favorite part of the day was how friends and family put so much thought into making the day meaningful and entertaining for them with hilarious speeches! Our staff is still talking about the “flight attendant” speech!
The people they were surrounded by is what really made the day special for Lauren and JJ. In a space that was comfortable and filled with love they couldn’t have asked for more!
They knew from the beginning that they loved The Haight. They felt the space was dynamic with a rustic and artistic feel. They loved that they could hold the whole event in one space and still keep guests engaged by moving from room to room. Lauren said, ” The venue coordinators were flexible, friendly, and quick to answer any questions or concerns we had.”
Lauren’s advice to those starting to plan:
Plan ahead and do not try and tackle everything at once. Start with the big things first (date, venue, caterer) and check off a few things on your to-do list each month. You will be so glad you did not procrastinate and save everything until the end! It is a lot to manage but don’t spend all of the time and money to be stressed out the day of, make sure you have fun! Balance the load with your fiance and when things get too heavy have a drink!
